Amanda Hervey Creative was founded in the spring of 2011, shortly after the birth of my daughter, Ada. Becoming a mother was very empowering for me, both personally and professionally, and I was inspired to look for ways to explore my love of writing, designing and editing in a way that would also allow me to be home with my child. Through AHC, I have been able to do all of those things.
At my very core, I am a storyteller and I am constantly looking for new ways to tell a tale, be it through traditional means like writing or by transforming an unwanted item into something beautiful and useful with a unique story. Though I have a wide variety of interests, it is storytelling that fuels all of my creative endeavors.
I am perhaps best known for my work on Kentucky A to Z, a travel-memoir series which has appeared in Kentucky Monthly since it’s debut in 2009. Each month, I was given 24 hours to travel to a town chosen at random by the magazine’s editor and without doing any prior research, find a story. Having wandered down the back roads of Kentucky, meeting colorful characters and discovering my own story along the way, the series has come to a conclusion with the February 2012 issue of Kentucky Monthly with a story about an old bootlegger I met in Zachariah, KY. The series will be published as a book with bonus content and behind-the-scenes photos in the spring of 2012. With work on that series complete, I have focused my attention on writing what will be my debut novel, Mother Muse, and documenting my new “adventures” as a work-at-home momma, do-it-yourselfer and aspiring novelist on my blog A Lovely Place to Land. I also sell many of my creations on Etsy.
In addition to editorial and creative writing, I have experience working with businesses to create unique and concise copy for emails, advertisements, catalogs, newsletters, press releases, media kits, brochures and more. I love the challenge of telling a company’s story and communicating the essence of their work. Additional services I offer for businesses include proofreading, web or blog content development and photo styling.
